Medicaid Cuts Funding For Bathroom Safety Equipment

As of late 2009, there are some changes that are going to affect Washington Medicaid patients. Bellevue Healthcare is here for you and your patients, regarding insurance changes and updates. All insurance companies, and their individual plans, are constantly shifting, and we strive to keep ourselves current on how these changes affect our patients. Help in navigating the insurance maze is often the most important part of receiving medical equipment, as it’s often the most stressful part for a patient and their family. We understand that, and are here to help with any questions and concerns. We have included excerpts from an update that was published June 15, 2009 by the Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). The entire article and all changes can be viewed by visiting their website http://maa.dshs.wa.gov.

…In order to meet spending targets in the new biennial budget, the Department of Social and Health Services will implement several changes in the state’s optional Medicaid medical supply and equipment benefit this summer. Effective for dates of service on or after July 1, 2009, Washington State’s Medicaid program will no longer cover oral enteral nutrition for adult Medicaid clients. It will still be covered when a client uses it for tube feeding…

Effective August 1, 2009, the program will institute additional benefit changes for adult clients. They include:

  • Bath Safety or shower items, stockings and auto blood pressure cuffs are no longer a covered benefit. There is no change to the current policy on purchasing these items for children.
  • Incontinence supplies, sterile and non-sterile gloves, and diabetic supplies will all see reductions to the monthly allowances. These and many more changes can be viewed in their entirety at http://maa.dshs.wa.gov/news. We will continue to update our website with new information.

Thank you for helping us to alert our patients to these changes. Bellevue Healthcare will still offer a full line of bath safety products available for private purchase. In addition, as of August 1st, 2010, Bellevue Healthcare has new prices on a limited number of bath safety items. At Bellevue Healthcare it is our goal to always be competitive, an added benefit to you and your patients.

New Bath Safety Pricing for Walk-In Customer

As of August 1st, 2010, Bellevue Healthcare has new lower prices on a limited number of bath safety items that are picked up at our showrooms. Our new pricing is just another attempt for us to remain relevant in a world where Home Depot, Lowes and other box stores have started entering the home medical equipment market. We understand that we’ll lose money on certain items; however our goal is to remain a one-stop shop, a place where people always get more than they expect.

Our everyday pricing always includes free delivery, which Bellevue Healthcare has been committed to since Day One. However, to compete with those who have a different business model, we will be extending a 15% discount for items on this list that are purchased and picked up in our retail store. If you shop with us, you will find that our pricing is competitive across the board, on everything that we carry.

We’re confident an experience in our showroom will far out shine anything purchased at a store better suited for garden supplies, than durable medical equipment. You can be confident that your patient is receiving a quality product, with instruction on safe use by a trained professional.

Referral Discount

Bellevue Healthcare offers our referrals, and their families a 15% discount everyday (on personal use items), as a thank you for your continued support through patient referrals and word of mouth advertising. Thank you,
